The Director’s Eye: Visual Style & Cinematic Language is an advanced directing intensive that explores the aesthetic foundations that define cinematic storytelling. Rather than focusing solely on technical production, this workshop dives into the artistic decisions that shape the emotional and visual identity of a film. Students will examine how directors craft meaning through composition, lighting, color, movement, and rhythm—transforming a script into a visual experience.

Through scene analysis, visual exercises, and collaborative discussions, participants will explore how great filmmakers develop a recognizable visual voice. Topics include cinematic composition, blocking and camera movement, color theory, tone, visual symbolism, and how aesthetic choices influence audience perception. By the end of the intensive, students will gain a deeper understanding of how to direct with intentional visual style and how to translate narrative ideas into compelling images on screen.
