Turn Your Idea Into a Short Film Screenplay
Have a story you’ve been wanting to tell but don’t know how to get it onto the page? This screenwriting intensive will guide you through the essential tools and techniques needed to develop a compelling short film screenplay.
Over two sessions, you’ll learn how to build a strong premise, create memorable characters, structure a short film, develop conflict and turning points, write effective scenes, and create a screenplay that works visually on the screen.
Whether you’re a first-time writer or a filmmaker looking to strengthen your storytelling skills, this course will give you a practical foundation for writing short films—and the tools to take your idea from concept to screenplay.
WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
How to find and develop a strong short film idea
Creating compelling characters with clear wants and needs
Answering character questions that bring your characters to life
Understanding conflict, stakes, and turning points
Writing cinematic scenes that show rather than tell
Developing a beginning, middle, and ending that feels earned
Students may attend either day independently, but taking both provides a complete character-to-screenplay development process.
Attendees should bring pen and paper and/or laptop.
