ATLANTA, GA (October 30, 2025)—On Saturday, November 15th, at the prestigious Plaza Theatre, The Atlanta Film Society proudly presents the Atlanta premiere of THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR in its glorious 4K restoration (Restored by The Library of Congress and The Film Foundation. Funding provided by the Hobson/Lucas Family Foundation). Directed by Ivan Dixon and based on the best-selling novel by Sam Greenlee, THE SPOOK WHO SAT BY THE DOOR is certainly among the most radical major-release pictures of the 70s. It follows the first Black CIA agent to complete rigorous agency training, who then uses that knowledge to plot a Black revolution. 

ATLANTA, GA (October 10th, 2023) — The Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS) is pleased to announce the lineup of films for the fall edition of its ongoing screening series Locals Only: Not for the Faint of Heart. The eight films selected come from over 40 entries. They highlight October’s theme of locally produced short films under the thriller, horror, suspense, or mystery genres.

In anticipation of the release of Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, the 9th film from Quentin Tarantino, The Plaza Theatre and the Atlanta Film Society will host a special retrospective series featuring the previous eight films from the writer-director. 

Y'ALLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL is a gathering of filmmakers and filmlovers from all over the Southeast, getting together to watch some movies, talk about movies, and hopefully have a great time.

¡CineMás! is back for the fourth year! Join us for screenings of Asori Soto's CUBAN FOOD STORIES (Cuba), Alfonso Cuarón's ROMA (Mexico) and Cristina Gallego & Ciro Guerra's BIRDS OF PASSAGE (Colombia). Local area restaurants will provide special food for each screening.

Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS) and Kodak are in partnership to present the 100 Feet of Film Project. This project provides a team of filmmakers with the opportunity to maximize their creativity while minimizing the ability to reshoot.

With it being four weeks since the close of one of the most star-studded, mystical, and down right fun festivals since our inception, we wanted to share some of the highlights that we thought were truly amazing!

The Generally Local, Mostly Independent Film Series is an ongoing partnership between WonderRoot, the Atlanta Film Society, and the Plaza Theatre Foundation.

The ATLFS New Mavericks monthly programming is evolving to highlight female excellence, as well as delve into the craft of filmmaking disciplines both above and below the line

"Presented by the Atlanta Film Society (ATLFS), ¡CineMás! highlights films and filmmakers from Latin America. The inspiration for ¡CineMás! is the Latin American Film Festival that enjoyed a 25-year run at the High Museum, programmed by the late Media Arts Curator, Linda Dubler. In this spirit, ATLFS is pleased to continue this tradition, presenting award-winning Latin American cinema through ¡CineMás! each fall. 

With over 2,000 submissions already received for consideration into ATLFF '18, we are accepting applications to join our Screening Committee.

Back for it's 11th anniversary, Cinema Italy is here to showcase some of the greatest independent films from Italy at the historic Plaza Theatre from April 21-23!

Our Latin American film series returns for its 2nd year and showcases films from Guatemala, Cuba and Argentina at the Plaza Theatre. UN TANGO MAS closes out the series on Friday, November 18!

Herstory of the Female Filmmaker and Belle Raisers: Southeastern Shorts will screen in the New Mavericks Film Series on Saturday, November 19th at the Plaza Theatre.

Multiple ATLFF alum Eric Blue's new feature film BEACON POINT will have a week-long run at the Plaza!

Three films from the 2016 Festival del Film Locarno have their Atlanta premieres at the Plaza Theatre, November 1-3. Portugal, Switzerland and the United States are represented in the lineup.

Homespun's 6th edition, playing October 12th at the Plaza Theatre, includes two World Premieres and two ATLFF alumni! 

Joystick Gamebar will host the new film hub for the A3C festival & conference, hip-hop's annual pilgrimage. The ATLFS extension is free and open to the public!

Atlanta's LGBT film festival runs September 29th - October 6th at the Landmark Midtown Art Cinema.

October 6-7, award-winning LA-based filmmaker, installation artist, and hip-hop video director, Kahlil Joseph screens his work followed by a symposium and reception, all free and open to the public.
