Sue-Ellen Chitunya
Sue-Ellen Chitunya is a producer/filmmaker who hails from Zimbabwe. She is Presidential Leadership Scholar, a 2019 Georgia State University “40 under 40 honoree” and a graduate of the UCLA professional producing program. Sue-Ellen is a member of the Academy.
Sue-Ellen is an alumni of: Film Independent Amplifier, WIF Emerging Producer Program, Film Independent Producing Lab, Industry Academy at Lincoln Center NY, and Rotterdam Lab. Her projects have been selected for Film Independent Fast Track, Durban FilmMart, SFFILM, The Gotham, Red Sea Lodge, and Locarno Open Doors.
Sue-Ellen has various projects in development including GRAFT which was awarded best pitch at 2023 Durban FilmMart and Black Snake which was awarded the 2023 Lodge Jury Prize at Red Sea, the 2024 Stowe Storylabs SAG Indie Award, and the Vision Sud Est Award at 2025 Locarno Open Doors. Her recent short film, God Sleeps On Sundays, received 2 awards at the Zimbabwe National Arts Merits Awards.
Sue-Ellen has produced several shorts that have screened at festivals around the world including Rotterdam, BFI London, Tribeca, and Sydney. Her varied work experience includes programming for Zimbabwe, Atlanta and Slamdance Film Festivals; Post-Production Coordinator on Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Endgame (2019); and Black Panther (2018) and Junior Exec on This Is Us (S5 & S6) and Only Murders In The Building (S1 & S2). Sue-Ellen recently produced the documentary For Tomorrow (2022) available on Amazon Prime and the mobile interactive romcom, Mr. Right (2022).
