This four-part course is designed for filmmakers who have completed a script and are ready to move into production. Covering essential aspects of independent short film production, this class provides practical guidance on pre-production, on-set execution, directing, cinematography, and post-production. Whether you’re working with a small crew or a micro-budget, you’ll gain the skills and confidence to bring your short film to life.

Class 1: Pre-Production & Planning
Setting a strong foundation for your film.

  • Breaking down your script: creating a shot list and storyboards

  • Budgeting and funding strategies for independent shorts

  • Casting and assembling your crew

  • Location scouting and securing permits

  • Production scheduling and call sheets

Class 2: Directing & Cinematography
Crafting the visual and narrative style of your film.

  • The director’s role: vision, leadership, and working with actors

  • Camera techniques and shot composition

  • Lighting for mood and storytelling on a budget

  • Blocking and rehearsing scenes efficiently

  • Essential gear for indie filmmakers

Class 3: Production & On-Set Workflow
Executing your vision efficiently on set.

  • Organizing a smooth shoot: roles and responsibilities

  • Managing time and troubleshooting production challenges

  • Directing actors for authentic performances

  • Working with sound: recording clean dialogue and ambient audio

  • On-set safety and problem-solving

Class 4: Post-Production
Bringing your film to completion.

  • The editing process: structuring your film in post

  • Color correction vs. color grading: setting the right look

  • Sound design: enhancing dialogue, effects, and ambience

  • Music licensing and scoring

  • Exporting and finalizing deliverables for different platforms
