In light of concerns about COVID-19, we are no longer holding our April 4th Copyrights 101 class in person. Instead, we are going to hold the class virtually via video live stream. This will allow both you and the instructor the ability to speak face to face and maintain a classroom environment online!

Please email emma@atlantafilmsociety.org with any questions or concerns.

Producing creative content is a labor of love. For many artists, developing a concept can take months or even years. Buried in the creative process, many filmmakers forget the legal side of crafting original content. Each year numerous I.P. lawsuits are filed, with some carrying settlements as high as $150,000 or more!

With so much legal liability at stake, a series of questions arise: how do I file for copyright protection, what protections does copyright law give me, when do I own the work and when is it work for hire, and what happens if I or someone else infringes upon protected work?

A firm understanding of copyright law is essential for agreements associated with the development, production, and distribution of film and television projects. Make sure you have the tools you need to successfully navigate legal agreements in the entertainment industry.

Whether you create films, episodic series, music, design, or brand name you should know the basics needed to help avoid legal conflict. Join us as Entertainment Lawyer Marissa Crespo answers many of these questions and more.

This session will cover:

1) What copyright law is (and what it is not).

2) The benefits of copyright protection (and the difference between copyright and WGA registration).

3) Understanding copyright law in connection with several important agreements for film production and episodic series.

Refund request must be emailed to boxoffice@atlantafilmsociety.org 7 days prior to the date of event unless specified in the event description.
