In this weekend intensive, instructor Naomi McDougall Jones teaches all of the practical "how to make a micro-budget film" information that it took her two years of begging people for coffee dates to learn when she was making Imagine I'm Beautiful. Students will walk away from this class armed with detailed, action-oriented strategies on the a to z process, including how to write a screenplay for a micro-budget shoot, investors packets and talking to investors, crowd-funding, assembling your cast and crew, audience building, film festivals, and distribution.

This 2 day intensive (3 hours per day) workshop is geared towards filmmakers, but good for anyone who wants to make a movie (i.e. can be people transitioning from other roles in the industry). The workshop will be lecture-based and allow time for project-specific workshopping.

What students will learn :

  • How to write a screenplay for a micro-budget shoot

  • Investor packets and talking to investors

  • Crowd-funding

  • Assembling your cast and crew

  • Audience building

  • Film Festivals

  • Distribution

Pre-requisites and what students must bring to the class: There are no prerequisites for the class other than an enthusiasm to make a movie. This class will be most useful to you if you come to it with a specific project in mind, but is also okay for those who want to understand what is involved before embarking on a project. If you come with a project in mind, bring printouts of any materials (if any) that you already have, including a Lookbook, Investor Packet, etc. If you have none of those things, don’t panic, that’s part of what we’ll work on together!
